Applies to: Agencies selling their own plans
After a client says yes on a call, how do I take payment, and should I enter their card for them?
The recommended way is to let the client key in their own card:
- Create their sub-account with a free trial plan.
- The client gets an email invite saying their account is ready and clicks the link to activate it.
- They go to Settings, then Billing, click Upgrade, pick the plan they want and type in their own credit card. If you are on the phone, walk them through it, or send them the link and let them fill it out.
Clients can also enter their billing details on a payment form on your website.
You can also take payment yourself: open the customer, click Add payment method, enter their card, then add the plan and select their payment method. It works but is not recommended while your Stripe account is new. Stripe analyzes how many cards are tied to one IP address and browser. Entering many different customers' cards from the same IP address, when the card holders are in other states, looks like someone testing stolen cards, and with two, three, five or ten clients like that Stripe may close your account. Once you have built history and trust with Stripe you have more leeway. Keep your Stripe account in good standing, because it is how you accept credit card payments.
You can also sell without a call: build a form, add the Purchase (payment) element, select your product, save and publish, then send people the form URL or drag the form onto your website in the website builder. This needs your payment integration connected. Offering both a booking option and a direct buy works well.
Then set up their service. From the customer record you can see their plan and status and use the button to log in as them. You can build the AI agent together on the call (for example by entering their website), or tell them you will be in touch. If you use a snapshot, first add some balance to their account (for example $10) so you do not get an error when you log in, then log in as them, go to Settings, then Global variables, and set the variables such as company name, website and phone number. With a snapshot set up this way, a client can be up and running in minutes.
