Can phone calls be recorded and transcribed, and does it cost extra?

Yes. Calls can be recorded and transcribed, including your sales reps' calls. You find them in the Activity section of the contact, where you can play the recording and read the transcript and summary, and see who called whom.

Transcription (speech to text) costs 0.9 of a cent per minute, so a ten minute call costs about 9 cents.

To be recorded, a call has to pass through Votel. If a Votel number forwards the call to another phone, such as a cell phone or desk phone, it can still be recorded. If a call goes straight to another phone service without passing through Votel, we are out of the loop and cannot record it.
