How do I add a setup fee, a $1 trial or introductory pricing to my SaaS plan?
Set up your plan in the SaaS Configurator under SaaS plans. Every subscription plan has a setup fee field, and a plan can have more than one pricing option.
Setup fee: Votel recommends having a setup fee but being ready to waive it if the person decides on the spot. It is easier to go down from a setup fee than to go up, so it gives you room to negotiate. It also suits a local agency where every client is different and you do real setup work. The downside is friction: if people do not yet know, like and trust you, paying in advance for something they have not seen work can be a challenge.
$1 trial: for a plan of about $497 a month or more, it can be hard to get someone to pull out a card up front.
- Create another pricing option on the plan with a 14 day trial period.
- Set the setup fee to $1.
- Put that package on your payment form.
This gives a $1, 14 day trial and more sign-ups. The same works for a $1, 30 day trial.
Discounted upfront price, then the normal monthly price: on the subscription plan, add pricing with your normal monthly price, put the discounted upfront amount in as the setup fee, and give the number of months it covers before billing starts. The customer pays the setup fee at signup, receives those months at no extra cost, and the normal monthly price starts after that. For example, for a yearly offer, enter the normal monthly price as the price, add the discounted yearly total as the setup fee and give twelve months before billing starts. The same approach works for a discount on the first few months.
