How do I create a SaaS plan, set its price and mark up or limit each service?
SaaS plans are built in Settings, SaaS Configurator. You need a plan before you create sub-accounts, because the plan controls which services a sub-account can use.
- Open the SaaS plan builder and give the plan a name.
- Set the price. Click the pencil icon to enter it, for example $97 a month. You can offer a monthly and an annual option, a trial or no trial, setup fees and tax.
- Give every account a small starting balance, a dollar or two, so a new sub-account does not see a no funds warning when it logs in.
- Open the Services tab, which controls every service in the system.
The quick way to price services is the 2x button. It marks up every service at once, so you charge twice what Votel charges you and make margin every time a client uses the AI, sends an email or SMS, and so on. 2x is the most common markup, and you can still fine tune individual services afterwards.
The detailed way is to open a service. Your cost is shown on the left, and a drop-down sets how the service works:
- Off: the plan does not include it.
- Unlimited: it is on and you bill nothing for it.
- Included with deny overage: the plan includes a fixed amount (for example 1,000 contacts or 1,000 minutes) and the account cannot go over, which encourages the client to upgrade to the next plan.
- Included with billed overage: the plan includes an amount at no extra cost and anything over is billed (for example 1,000 contacts included, then a penny per contact per month).
- Pay per use: nothing included and every use billed at your rate.
Deny overage combined with plan tiers is how you build tiered plans, for example 10 forms on one plan with the eleventh refused so the client upgrades. To sell a fixed package, include a quantity in the plan and bake its cost into the plan price. You can also add your own custom services, such as social media management, turn them on or off per plan, and upsell any service at a multiple such as two or three times your cost.
How billing works: Votel bills you its rate, and you bill your clients your rate, so only you bill your own clients. For example, if an AI credit costs you $0.25 and you charge $0.50, you keep the difference.
On the plan's Sub-account defaults tab you can set what every account on the plan gets, such as a snapshot, a sidebar, a top bar or a getting started guide. In the sidebar settings you can hide menu items for services a package does not include (for example calendars, websites or payments), change icon size and shape, and keep several versions of the menu bar with a different one attached to each plan.
