How do I hide features from my clients and give each plan its own sidebar menu?
By default a sub-account has everything. There are two ways to limit what a client sees:
- Turn the service off in the client's SaaS plan. The client still sees the item in the sidebar and gets an upgrade popup when they try to use it. Use this when you want them to see it and upgrade.
- Hide the item from the sidebar, so the client does not see it at all.
To customize a sidebar and give it to a plan:
- Go to Settings, then SaaS Configurator, then Sidebar.
- Click the eye icon next to a menu item to hide it (a preview shows the result). You can also rename items, change icons and spacing, reorder items and add custom links.
- Save your changes as a new sidebar template.
- Open the SaaS plan, go to the Sub-account defaults tab and choose the sidebar from the drop down. Every sub-account on that plan gets it. The same tab sets the plan's snapshot, top bar and getting started guide.
You can build several templates, for example a real estate sidebar and an HVAC sidebar, a package with a single feature that shows only Conversations, a sidebar with only AI, Conversations, Calendars and Contacts and no dashboard, or a done-for-you package where clients see only the dashboard and Conversations. You can do the same for the top bar. Different plans then have access to different things, and clients only see what they bought. As the admin, when you log in to a client's account you still see everything.
To protect your intellectual property, lock items such as agents, websites and forms. When an item is locked, you can see it but the client cannot open, see or edit it. This is useful for your secret sauce or anything you do not want clients to change. For finer control, create roles that limit what people can create, update or delete.
Many agencies strip out what their clients do not need, for example click tracking for clients who do not run online ads, or payments for clients who do not invoice. A simpler menu is less overwhelming and stops clients changing workflows and then calling you with a problem.
