How do I limit a service on a plan so customers must upgrade or pay for overage?

On the Services (service and usage pricing) tab of a plan in the SaaS Configurator, every service starts on unlimited. Expand a category such as CRM, find the service and choose what happens at the limit:

  1. Deny overage: enter the amount, for example 1,000 contacts. When the client reaches it they are told they cannot add more and must move to your next plan.
  2. Bill overage: enter your price for usage over the included amount, so the client is billed for what they use beyond it.
  3. Off: turn the service off entirely, for example no SMS on your first plan, which pushes people to the higher plan.

This works with every service, for example one AI agent, 1,000 contacts, a set number of AI receptionist minutes, SMS, emails or forms. Apply it to the services that move the needle for your offer. Contacts and AI receptionist minutes are the most common. It is a good way to walk customers up a value ladder.

Our own experience is that limits create friction and unlimited sells better, so also consider feature based add-ons (for example an add-on that includes Visitor ID for an extra monthly price) instead of limits. Plans, limits and add-ons can also be set up through the API or the MCP.
