How do I port my existing phone number into Votel?

You can port numbers into Votel, and port them out again, at any time. When a business ports its number in, it keeps the same number everywhere, which matters for keeping its name, address and phone details consistent across the web (for example on its Google Business Profile), and you control what happens when the number is called.

To start a port:

  1. Go to Settings, then Phone.
  2. Open the Transfer number tab and click Start a transfer.
  3. Fill out the porting form for the number.
  4. Provide proof that you own the number. You are asked for an invoice. If the old provider does not show the phone number on its invoices, a screenshot of the number in the old account is enough.

The form asks for a PIN, but not every phone company has one. If yours does not, enter something such as the phone number or the account number. The field only needs a value.

A port usually takes about two to three days. You can also ask Votel support to start the port for you once you tell them which number.

A number cannot be held in two systems at once, so after the port, inbound calls come to Votel. Your old system may still let you make outbound calls that show the number if it supports caller ID spoofing.

If the number already sends text messages, apply for A2P (10DLC) registration in Votel first, wait for the approval, and then port the number, so your texting has no downtime.
