Applies to: Customers porting numbers that send, or will send, text messages
If I port a number that was already registered for texting, do I have to register for 10DLC again?
Yes, for texting. An A2P (10DLC) approval at another provider, for example Twilio or GoHighLevel, does not carry over, so a number you port into Votel goes through 10DLC registration in Votel before it can send text messages. Registration is not needed for phone calls: a ported number makes and answers calls as soon as the port is complete.
To avoid texting downtime when you already send texts from the number:
- Apply for A2P registration in Votel first. Go to Settings, then Phone, then the 10DLC tab, and register your brand and your use case.
- Wait for the approval, which usually takes a few days.
- Then port the number in.
If you are not texting from the number yet, you can port it first and then go through the application.
Having been approved before makes it easier. Tell the team you were already approved and give your existing campaign ID, which can help the application pass. If you are coming from GoHighLevel, the migration extension can export your 10DLC application so you can submit it in Votel with one click.
Toll-free numbers use toll-free verification instead, which is a separate registration you also complete in Votel.
