Applies to: Agencies deciding how to position themselves

Should my agency pick a niche or work with local businesses?

There are two main ways agencies succeed on Votel: niche down or go local. Both can work, so decide which you want to run. Our training, including the 5 Day Challenge, focuses mostly on niching down.

Niche down: say exactly what you do for one type of business, build a repeatable process and turn it into a snapshot. You build it once and resell it over and over, and you can find those businesses anywhere. Knowing how that type of business works can make selling easier, and reaching businesses nationwide gives you more buyers to pick from, which works especially well if you market with Facebook ads.

Go local: every client is a little different, and it is all about relationships. You meet face to face, grab lunch with a client or drop in with a box of donuts. Local agencies often work with any business they can and grow on referrals and networking. The work is more custom and you become their problem solver, so local clients can stay for the life of their business because they can pick up the phone and call you.

If you are local and want to niche, check whether there are enough businesses of that type near you.
