What is Visitor ID and how do I set it up on my website?

Visitor ID (also called visitor intelligence or visitor identity) identifies people who visit your website even when they never fill out a form or book a meeting. You place a pixel on the website and Votel tells you who is visiting, with data points such as name, address, email address, phone number, income and marital status. The data varies by person, depending on how much data exists on them. Each identified visitor is created automatically as a contact in your system, so anyone who clicks through from a social post, an email or an ad can become a lead.

It does not identify every visitor. Roughly 15 to 25 percent of visitors can be identified, depending on your traffic. Visitor ID works in the US only. The data is not perfect: people move and change phone numbers, so an address can be a previous one, but it is typically still the right person.

To turn it on:

  1. Go to Settings, then Visitor ID.
  2. In the visitor identity section, flip on the switch Identify website visitors.
  3. If the Votel AI chat widget is already on your website, you do not need a separate pixel because visitor identity is built into the widget. Open the AI agent, click the website widget, and make sure the Enable visitor identity switch at the bottom of the widget settings is on.
  4. For a website without the chat widget, such as a client's site, open the Install tab. It gives you the pixel (snippet of code) to place on the site and lets you customize the cookie consent. The pixel works on any site, inside or outside Votel, for example WordPress, and it can go on a website, a funnel, or both. White label operators get a code that carries their own domain.

The snippet is one per account. Use that account's snippet on every website you run under it.

You need traffic for people to be identified. It does not have to be huge, a steady flow of organic traffic is enough, but you do have to get your offer in front of people with social posts, lead magnets, communities, email or ads.

If you installed the pixel and are not seeing identified visitors, check that the switches in Settings, Visitor ID are on, especially Identify website visitors. If it still does not work, contact support and we can check how your site is set up.
