Applies to: Anyone setting up a white label brand or custom domain

Where do I buy a domain for my white label, and how do I point it to Votel?

You need a domain to put your white label online. Votel does not sell domains, so if you do not already have one, buy one at a registrar such as namecheap.com or godaddy.com. A .com is cheap, around $10 a year, while a .ai is expensive, around $80 to $90. The extension does not matter: .com, .net, .org and .ai all work.

The domain is what your customers see and log in to, so make it your brand name. It does not need to match your LLC or company name, and often it does not. You can show either the LLC name or your brand name on invoices, and you can customize invoices with your logo and billing information. Pick something easy to remember and easy to say over the phone, without odd spellings. If you are choosing a niche, decide on it first, since it may shape your brand name. Do not wait for the perfect domain: you are not married to your first choice and can change it later, so get something just to get online.

You do not need any add-ons at checkout. If the registrar offers premium email or advanced DNS, skip them. The domain name alone is enough.

A domain works like a phone book entry that says a name points to a particular server, which for you is Votel. After you buy it:

  1. In Votel, go to Settings, SaaS Configurator, Custom domain and add a subdomain such as app.yourdomain.com for your white label app.
  2. Add the DNS records Votel shows at your registrar. If you use Cloudflare, add the records in your Cloudflare DNS.

Use the root domain (yourdomain.com) for your agency website.
