Which domain and email options should I choose when I add my custom domain to Votel?

In Settings, SaaS Configurator, Custom domain, there are separate spots for each purpose:

  1. The login (portal) domain, where your clients log in to your white label. A subdomain such as app.yourdomain.com is recommended.
  2. The Help center domain (shown in a yellowish orange color), which serves the documentation, API guides and videos under your brand. Leave the white label help docs on, and open it to see the DNS record to add.
  3. The email domain, the domain your emails are sent from. Add it under email.

Sending: most people send email from their root domain (yourdomain.com), not from the login subdomain, so we do not recommend sending email from a subdomain. When you add the login subdomain and are asked whether to send email from it, leave that off and add your root domain as the email domain instead. Every account should be able to send email from the system.

Receiving: inbound email is off by default. If the domain already has email, such as Google Workspace or Gmail, leave inbound email off, because turning it on takes over the mail for that domain. You keep receiving in your existing mailbox and still send from Votel. If you also want a copy of incoming mail inside Votel, each email account in Votel has a unique forwarding code you can use to forward a copy. If the domain has no other mail service and you want to receive email in Votel, turn inbound email on and create an email identity such as yourname@yourdomain.com. If email is already sending from the domain, Votel detects it.

Each domain you add shows the DNS records to add at your DNS provider, one at a time, with the name on the left and the value on the right, and the page checks them. A domain you do not need can simply be removed. You can also ask the AI assistant to add a domain, but entering it on this page yourself is often easier. If you need help, click the support button.
